Hi Everyone!

I'm a beginner with lavaan and still working on buffing up my statistics knowledge. I'm working on building my model syntax, but I'm having a little difficulty conceptually with labeling the pathways for the following model (e.g. a1, a2, b1, b2, c', etc.) due to there being two mediators and a moderator involved. Is anyone able to assist but also explain why it would be labeled that way?

Thank you kindly!

Your moderator is binary, so are you using a multi-group model?

Hi,

Your mediation model contains 1 IV, 2Mes, and 1 DV. I suggest you take a look at Haye’s book 3rd edition of Introduction to Mediation, Moderation, and Conditional Process Analysis. Your mediation model should be Model 6, and in this book, he gives this model specific labels for each path.

Thank you for your response! I may be mistaken but Model 6 wouldn't be a perfect fit since I don't hypothesize a relationship between X and M2 or a direct relationship between X and Y. Would you suggest that I just use it as a guideline and exclude those pathways (e.g. a2 and  c')?  model 6.png

Again, is this an multigroup model? Where exactly do you need help? In specifying the model, in adding parameter labels or in finding appropriate names for the labels?

Hi,

My apologies! I accidentally overlooked your initial email. Yes, it's a multigroup model. I specifically need assistance in finding the appropriate names for the labels.

From a technical point of view, it doesn't matter at all. You can name the parameters "Jack" or John" as long as you know what is meant by it. This has no impact on the parameter estimates. If - for whatever reason - it is important for you to follow a certain norm for the syntax, then you can, for example, use the Jöreskog notation or Bentler Weeks or .....

Ah, thank you kindly for explaining! I misunderstood and thought that that particular syntax was a requirement :)

(Terrence * Mikko / Yves)^Shu_Fai could be an interesting coefficient 😁 A little bit of fun must be allowed even here and I hope that no one feels offended.

Hi,

Not at all. I feel flattered to have my name in the same equation with Terrence, Yves, and Shu_Fai  😉

:-) I am afraid that the coefficient does not make sense. Obviously it still has to be divided by Ringle^Henseler and if I'm not mistaken this equals Ed/Cam. A difficult problem. Damn. Scientific realism is a difficult issue or is it all constructivism after all?

Best

P.S. only partially linked tonlavaam - sorry
