A few years ago I made a model with Lavaan (0.5-23.1097) and run it again lately with Lavaan (0.6-1). As expected, the fit indices are identical, however the GFI is lower (from .99 to .87) and the numbers of free parameters have dropped from 106 to 78. In Mplus the same model has 106 free parameters. Is there a bug in Lavaan (0.6-1) that has eaten away free paramaters?

Greetings,

The latest CRAN version is 0.6-4, does the discrepancy still occur?  Please provide a reproducible example.

One hypothesis:  You have endogenous categorical variables and at least one exogenous observed covariate.  The default in this case is (now) to set conditional.x = TRUE.  You can try explicitly setting it TRUE and FALSE to see if this is the explanation.
