Hello,

I am interested in obtaining correlation residuals (i.e., standardized covariance resiudals) for a CFA model using DWLS estimation for ordinal data, in order to get an idea of any posisble mispecification. Is it correct to use the resid(fit) command? I am assuming that as the input matrix is of correlations (polychoric) the residuals produced by resid(fit) will automatically be in correlational form. Is that right? Many thanks. Peter

As long as all your observed variables are categorical/ordered: yes.

Yves.

Great, thanks for confirming this

Hi, I've just run the same CFA model in both lavaan and Mplus (a 3 factor cfa with categorical indicators). The results are identical for the most part (same fit statistics, loadings, correlations, etc.). However, the correlation residuals I generate in lavaan through the resid(fit) command differ to those I obtain in mplus with the "output: residual" command. Any thoughts on why this might be or which set of residuals to go with? Many thanks.

Is Sigma (the model-implied correlation matrix) the same for both?  If they differ, do both make sense?

Just had another look at this and noticed an error in what I was doing. Everything matches now including residuals! Thanks
