I really want to go to this certain college but the biggest downsides are a) the on average 40 minute commute (depends on traffic) b) the ugly and depressing city and c) the extremely limited parking.

The Every 15 Minutes program is a two-day program focusing on high school juniors and seniors, which challenges them to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, the responsibility of making mature decisions and the impact their decisions have on family, friends, their community, and many others.

The program brings together a broad coalition of interested local agencies with the goal of reducing alcohol-related incidents among youth. The partnering of the California Highway Patrol, local law enforcement, local hospitals, emergency medical responders, schools, businesses, and service clubs validates the importance of working together to ensure a healthy community.

With funding available from the California Office of Traffic Safety, the California Highway Patrol provides mini-grants to schools and organizations wanting to implement the Every 15 Minutes program.

The median length of school lunch periods has largely stayed the same over the past decade, according to the School Nutrition Association. But that obscures the problem: With growing student populations, many schools are cycling more students through the cafeteria which means less time for eating, said Gay Anderson, the president of the School Nutrition Association.

Sixty-five percent of the students in the study had less than 20 minutes to eat their lunch and those students consumed significantly less of their entrees, vegetables, and milk compared to students who had at least 25 minutes to eat. They ate 13 percent less of their entrees, 12 percent less of their vegetables, and drank 10 percent less of their milk, Cohen found. Students were also much less likely to select fruit for their meal.

Other strategies schools can consider to get students to the tables to eat more quickly are adding additional lines and automated point-of-sale services where they simply have to swipe a card to pay for their food, said Cohen.

For those who are unable to attend, each team is going to record a video where they have a chance to introduce themselves, give you an overview of the school year, and describe and their curriculum plans and classroom expectations. The link to this video will be sent to you by your grade level teams and by our Global Arts team.

To make all of the magic happen, we need your help! In addition to donating your time, the Foundation has made a goal for the 23-24 school year. The goal is to have at least 50 families donating a recurring contribution of $20.23 a month.

The Exploris PTO is still looking for crew parent volunteers in grades 4-7 for the 2023-2024 school year! Crew parents support the grade-level teachers, assist with activity & event planning, attend PTO meetings, and more. The school sent out a statement Thursday saying, "North Johnston High, North Johnston Middle, Glendale-Kenly Elementary and Micro Elementary schools are all currently without power and heat. School will not be in session at these sites today, Thursday, Nov. 29. Buses will not run these routes. Parents and guardians are asked to pick up their students. Buses that have already run are being held at the schools."

For the past several years, I have been offering an occasional series in the parish called the 30-Minute School of Prayer. This is the fifth post in the series. I will reflect on occasion about one particular aspect of prayer. There is no one place to begin nor is there a particular sequence of reflections that must be read in order. I simply invite you to rest in God as you have come to experience God. I invite you to reflect on practical matters and issues or ideas from the gospels. Take time to reflect on the text here then be still, calm your life and be quiet for 20- 30 minutes. So we begin.

Before I continue, please guess how students in your school did on math. How many of your eighth-graders were proficient? I thought back to my school days and how we groaned after getting a test back, but a good majority made a passing grade. I expected lower results, but got surprised by the real numbers.

Unless modified through a School Based Option (SBO) pursuant to Article 8B of the Teachers' CBA, UFT-represented employees have a 6 hour, 20 minute workday with 155 minutes of extended time configured in different ways depending on the school.

A new three-year pilot workday for teachers and paraprofessionals will be launched for the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. Like the current pilot workday, both the DOE and the UFT must agree to extend it each year after that or the configuration of time reverts back to 37.5 minutes after school for small-group instruction and tutoring Mondays through Thursday.

The National Center for School Mental Health* defines school-based mental health as interventions that students receive to enhance social/emotional or behavioral adjustment and well-being. These services range from school-wide prevention efforts to individualized, intensive interventions including comprehensive mental health services provided directly on site in a school-based health clinic (SBHC). Increased scholastic performance, improved attendance, expansion in academic activities and fewer disruptions to the learning environment are some of the positive outcomes that occur with this medical-home model.
