4) Mayor's Forum Series Volunteer Requirements
There is an exciting opportunity to help with an event series planned
to occur this spring (on three Saturdays falling on April 2, May 7,
and June 18) called the “Mayor's Forum Series on Building Resilient
Communities”. The event series is being organized by a group called
TransitionKW in partnership with Mayor Brenda Halloran of the City of
Waterloo, LSPIRG, and other supporting partners .
To provide some background, TransitionKW is part of a larger worldwide
"Transition Town" movement that started in the United Kingdom and is
gaining traction in North America. It is our intention through the
event series to help our community become more environmentally,
socially, and economically resilient. We intend to achieve this by
bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders (i.e. from not-for-
profits, neighbourhood organizations, businesses, students, the City,
etc.), with a focus on involving those who have the desire and
capacity to be strategic about community change.

In order for the event to be a success, TransitionKW has the following
volunteer requirements:
1. Registration – approx. 1 ½ hour (9:00-10:30 on any or all of the
events) – 2 individuals
2. Food pickup (1-2 days before event. Couple of hours.)
3. Webmaster – Update website to keep people abreast of changes in
event. No significant technical experience required (1 hr/week).
4. Graphical designers – People with graphical skills to create signs,
handouts, and banners that would be displayed and/or used at the event
(3 hours of dedicated time at least preferred). We also need a
talented artist to visually depict what people are talking at the
events in mural format (all day on the event).
5. Technicians – Assist with running of visual and sound system (all
day on the event)
6. News writers – People to write editorial articles/articles about
events for local papers like The Cord, The Waterloo Chronicle, and The
Record.
7. Videographers – People willing to try and videotape some of the
thoughts and opinions of attendees at the event (all day for the
events, or as able).
8. Survey Designer – Someone to design a “Survey Monkey” survey to
assess people’s thoughts on the events (8 hours).
Anyone interested in helping with these activities is encouraged to
email resilientc...@transitionkw.ca. Please put the name of the
position you are applying for in the subject line. For all positions
other than registration and food pickup, include in your email a short
description of why you are qualified to help.
Thanks very much for your interest!
