LSPIRG Updates

1) Anti-Racism Week - Mar 22-26 on Campus!
-look for our booth all week in the Concourse!

Monday March 22: - join us for our Anti-Racism Week Launch from 7-10pm
at the Paul Martin Centre!

Tuesday March 23: - 5:30 - 9 pm: Community Cookout Event! Join us at
the Mac House kitchen at 6pm for some collaberative (and
experimental?) cooking! Bring your friends or come alone and make
some new ones!

Wednesday March 24: - 7 -10 pm: Movie Night: Hollywood movie -
'District 9', with following discussion of racist themes/
implications.room N1002.

Thursday March 25: - 7 - 10 pm: Movie night: 'Precious', with
following discussion of racist themes/implications. Room BA102

Friday March 26: - 11 - 7 pm: Anti-Oppression workshops back to back
all day in a classroom on campus: DAWB 2-108. Pop in and get some
training!
- 8 - 2 am: Jammin' For Anti-Racism Week (if
anyone can come up with a more original or catchy name pls do!)
- 8 -8:30: Radical Choir

2) Strummin' for San Roque Tickets!
Anyone needing to pick up tickets for Strummin for San Roque can do so
in the WLU Concourse from 11-1pm on Wednesday March 17th!

3) Global Citizenship Conference Executive Team Opportunity!

The Global Citizenship Conference is looking for some highly motivated
and engaged students to join the 2011 executive team. The Wilfrid
Laurier University Global Citizenship Conference (GCC) provides an
educational experience for the conference delegate and seeks to create
and continue a dialogue about the contemporary challenges we are and
will be facing as Global Citizens. Through providing an open forum,
comprised of varying points of view, the GCC promotes students and
community members to be engaged, empowered and proactive toward a more
sustainable future both locally, nationally and internationally. There
are positions available for several different areas including:
marketing, volunteer coordinator, programming and conference
coordinator. The executive meeting will be happening Sunday March 21,
2010 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

If you are interested in joining the executive team for 2011, please
send an email to wluglobalc...@gmail.com stipulating your
position of interest and any relevant experience (no experience is
required).

Community Updates

1) Zine/Patch making workshop!
Join CSSDP WLU in Bricker Academic room 111 from 6-whenever on March
16th, for both an introduction to 'zine making (where CSSDP WLU will
see their very own publication come to life!), and learn how to make
patches that can be sewn or sold!
at 7pm, join us for an informal discussion with an ADDICTIONS
COUNSELOR, whom will share his experience and perspective on harm
reduction. Q and A highly recommended!

So, please join us and also please tell you're friends (PS, if you
have any old magazines you don't mind being cut up, bring 'em too!)


2) Shattering The Silver Screen presents... Horror Month!
Pretty Bloody: The Women of Horror - March 15 at 7pm in BA101
Jennifer's Body - March 24 at 7pm in BA102

On March 15, Professor Michele Kramer will lead discussion following a
screening of "Pretty Bloody: The Women of Horror", a Canadian
documentary about women’s contribution to the horror industry.


3) I'm Not A Feminist, But... - The Importance of Feminism on Campus,
with Jessica Valenti
March 18th - 7:00pm in Room 1E1
(Rescheduled from February 10th)
"I'm not a feminist, but..." is generally followed by a rather
feminist statement. So why is "the F-word" so taboo? On Thursday March
18th, Jessica Valenti, founder of Feministing.com and author of “Full
Frontal Feminism” and “The Purity Myth", is coming to Laurier to talk
about how feminism isn't so scary after all, and why it's relevant and
important in at universities.
