Events Coordinator
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to plan and coordinate the
LSPIRG events in the summer including the O-Week programming for
September 2011. The Events Coordinator will organize various events
during summer, mainly the LSPIRG Radical Orientation Week that will
provide incoming first year Laurier students with the opportunity to
learn about different ways of engaging in social change on campus and
in the local community. The Events Coordinator will organize
activities such as a working group fair showcasing various groups on
social issues to speaker events, field trip to socially-mandated
organizations in the Kitchener-Waterloo community, conversation cafés,
and various other events to create inclusive and interactive spaces
for students to learn about different ways of being socially engaged
during their stay at Laurier. As such, the Events Coordinator will be
responsible for:
• Collaborating with the Radical O-week Planning Committee and other
key partners on campus and in the community to coordinate activities
for the orientation week
• Taking care of the logistical details of the event
• Recruiting, training, and coordinating the efforts of the Radial O-
week volunteers to ensure things run smoothly during the week
• Coordinating a debriefing session and preparing a transition report
at the end of the term
• Assisting with other projects and tasks as needed
This is a paid position under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant. The
position will start on Monday, June 6, 2011 and end on Sunday
September 11, 2011. The hourly wage is $13.75/ hour with 30 hours of
work per week. According to the eligibility requirements set by the
CSJ program, the participant of this program:
1. should be registered as a full-time student during the preceding
academic year;
2. intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next
academic year;
3. is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only),
vocational or technical program;
4. is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of
employment;
5. is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom
refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and
Refugee Protection Act;
6. is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial /
territorial legislation and regulations
We are looking for somebody who is passionate about social change, is
a member of LSPIRG, has strong organizational, leadership, and event-

Projects Coordinator
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to plan and coordinate
various LSPIRG projects in the summer as well as provide
administrative support. The Projects Coordinator will be working on
various LSPIRG projects, assisting with summer events and providing
administrative support. The main responsibilities include (but not
limited to):
• Providing administrative support in the Office
• Coordinating various LSPIRG projects including the Summer Institute
for Social Change
• Researching and developing relevant resources, tools, how-to guides,
and kits on the theme of social change for the resource centre
• Providing assistance as needed to the Events Coordinator in the
planning of the LSPIRG Orientation Week programming
• Providing support on other projects and tasks as needed
