Events Coordinator

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to plan and coordinate the
LSPIRG events in the summer including the Complementary O-Week 2010.

The Events Coordinator will be responsible for:
Organizing LSPIRG’s summer programming
Working with the Complementary O-week Planning Committee to coordinate
activities for the Orientation week
Taking care of the logistical details of the events
Recruiting, training, and coordinating the efforts of the
Complementary O-week volunteers to ensure things run smoothly during
the week
Coordinating a debriefing session and preparing a transition report at
the end of the term
Assisting with other elements of Complementary O-week and summer
programming as needed

This is a paid position under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant. The
position will start on Monday, June 7, 2010 and end on Friday, August
27, 2010. The hourly wage is $13.5/ hour with 30 hours of work per
week.

According to the eligibility requirements set by the CSJ program, the
participant of this program:
Should be registered as a full-time student during the preceding
academic year;
intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next
academic year;
is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only),
vocational or technical program;
is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of
employment;
is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act;
is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial /
territorial legislation and regulations

a member of LSPIRG, has strong organizational, leadership, and event-

Environmental Researcher

LSPIRG is looking for a student researcher to assist with LSPIRG
projects. The person in this role will:
Research and prepare a resource guide on sustainability. This guide
will be used by staff, board, volunteers, and working groups to help
implement LSPIRG’s sustainability policy.
Research resources and help prepare kits for the Anti-Oppression
Training Program
Assist with any other research projects and summer programming as
needed

Independent Student Researcher

LSPIRG is looking for a student researcher to complete an independent
research project on a social justice issue for the spring term. The
position is open to any member of LSPIRG (undergraduate Laurier
students are automatically members unless opted out; graduate students
can apply as community members). The applicant will have a clear idea
of the project they wish to carry out with some experience in writing
research reports. The scope of the project the student wishes to carry
out should be suitable for the timeframe of this position (June -
August to complete research and draft report, September to finalize
and present the report; project can be completed earlier than
September). The researcher will be given a grant of $1,000 upon
completion of the project. The Student Researcher will:

Design and implement a research project that falls within the values
of LSPIRG (found at www.lspirg.ca).
Develop a research work plan with the Executive Director
Develop a research proposal to be presented to the Research Advisory
Council
Conduct the research and prepare a report with a policy focus that can
be published
Prepare and deliver a presentation on the research findings for the
Research Advisory Councils and LSPIRG members

Anti-Oppression Training Facilitators (16 positions) + Coordinator (1
position)

LSPIRG is looking for sixteen exceptional individuals who are creative
and passionate about community engagement. We are looking for people
from diverse backgrounds to consist of a team that will conduct 90
minutes anti-oppression workshops for first-year students during the
first two weeks of classes in September. These workshops will also be
offered to student groups and any professors interested in bringing
this workshop to their classrooms. The purpose of this initiative is
to make Laurier a safer space, a more inclusive and sensitive
community that is proactive in addressing the oppression of different
marginalized groups in our community.

The selected ‘Training Facilitators’ will have a combination of skills
and experiences in the following areas: workshop facilitation,
programming, educating, public speaking, creative thinking,
communication skills, research skills, conflict resolution skills, and
an understanding of issues related to diversity and anti-oppression.
We understand that there is a wealth of different life experiences
facilitators can bring to this position – please feel free to discuss
that in your cover letter as to how your different experiences and
skills can contribute to your role as a facilitator of a diversity and
anti-oppression program.

We are also looking for an individual to coordinate the logistics of
the program. The 'Program Coordinator' will work closely with the
Executive Director to organize workshop schedules, keep records,
prepare training kits, set up classrooms for workshops, and assist
with other organizational tasks as needed. Occassionally, the
Coordinator will also facilitate workshops if needed.


All these positions entail honoraria of $250 per facilitator and
require a time commitment of about 30 hours of work to be completed
from Sept. 13 – 24, 2010. Training will require additional time
commitment and will be held on the following weekends: Aug. 27 – 29
and Sep. 3-5, 2010.
