Robbins again admitted Cisco was effectively locked out of the hyperscale infrastructure business for multiple years, but it committed to insert itself into the next architectural transition. The segment now presents Cisco with a strong contributor to long-term growth due to multiple investments and innovation in that space, he said.

This view has probably changed a little, with the emergence of tool sets and specialist consulting services to facilitate migration. The Cloud providers have also made it easier by automating some elements of the discovery, re-design, re-build and deploy processes.

Presidio CEO Bob Cagnazzi said his $3 billion New York-based company, No. 21 on the CRN 2015 Solution Provider 500 and a top Cisco partner, is ready to pounce on the new revenue opportunities unlocked by Cisco's transition to a network software subscription model that will leave competitors in the dust.

What we've done around Presidio Managed Cloud with Cisco and with the expertise with Sequoia group is create an orchestration and automation tool that's as-a-Service to our clients, that drives Cisco revenues, our revenues, but provides that easy point-and-click provisioning and mobility of workloads between public-public, private-private, public-private, etc.

Cisco Meraki may find it necessary to discontinue products for a number of reasons, including product line enhancements, market demands, technology innovation, or the products simply mature over time and are replaced by functionally richer products. We have set our end-of-life (EOL) policy to help customers better manage their product end-of-life transition.

Thinking about migrating from an ASA firewall to a Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) all-in-one appliance? Instead of manually inputting the entire configuration from an ASA to an FTD, Cisco provides a migration tool to help with the transition. This tool, aptly named the firepower migration tool, has limitations but it can help migrate objects, access control lists (ACLs) and network address translations (NATs) that otherwise would have to be manually migrated from the ASA to the FTD. This tool becomes more valuable when there are multiple ASAs with hundreds of ACL entries, objects and NATs.

Migrating all of your devices from another MDM provider into Meraki Systems Manager can feel like an overwhelming task at first, but do not fear! Switching MDM providers does not have to be daunting, overwhelming, or painful. There are many reasons for switching MDM providers: whether your current MDM provider does not provide the support you expect or you simply desire a simple but rich feature set for managing devices. This guide will assist you in transitioning from another MDM provider into Meraki Systems Manager as seamlessly as possible, with the least disruption for end users.

This article covers Apple device migration (iOS and macOS) as there are several tools to leverage to smooth out the process. Windows, Android, and Chrome OS migration steps will be added at a future date.

There are a few things that should be considered before making the switch from another MDM provider to Meraki Systems Manager. Your organization's timeline requirements, communication to end users, and using first party tools like Apple's Device Enrollment Program, can help outline an action plan for the transition.

The Apple Push Notification service certificate is required for Apple devices to communicate with MDMs. This means an APNs certificate is likely already created for the previous MDM provider. While it's technically possible to use the current APNs certificate and renew it with Meraki's .csr (found in Organization > MDM), it is recommended to generate a totally new APNs certificate to be used exclusively with Meraki Systems Manager. You can create as many APNs certificates as you need (two different APNs certificates in this scenario if you are transitioning from one MDM provider into Systems Manager) in the Apple Push Certificate Portal. We will set up the new Meraki Organization's APNs during the Meraki Systems Manager during the migration steps (below).

The Cisco enterprise agreement, or EA, has become more important in recent years amid Cisco's transition into software and subscription sales. The EA lets customers consolidate multiple subscriptions under one pact and also aims to help partners more readily propose comprehensive offerings to their clients.

The tool's capabilities have been further expanded under EA 3.0, according to Cisco. Dan Lohmeyer, vice president of product management at Cisco, said user- experience changes have made it faster for partners to assemble deals. Partners offering feedback on the pilot program said they could put together proposals in 15 to 30 minutes, he said.

Cisco Jabber is an application that acts as an all-in-one communication tool. The application allows users to make calls and chat with other Jabber users. You can make calls using a headset, desk phone, or using your computer's microphone and speakers.

Everyone at Tufts is eligible to use Cisco Jabber for Chat (Instant Messaging) by logging into the Cisco Jabber application using their Tufts UTLN and password. Tufts departments are in the process of transitioning from using analog phones to using Cisco Jabber's VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, technology which provides telephone service over the Internet. Departments will be contacted in advance by TTS to determine their needs and schedule their transition to VoIP. After the transition takes place for your department, you will be able to use the telephone features of Cisco Jabber in addition to Instant Messaging.

This makes bulk phone migrations quicker and easier, paving the way for timely, automated migrations. The migration process is simple. Start by uploading a BAT file from Webex to CUCM, which signals the phones to kick off the migration. From there, the process completes the transition to MPP firmware, hosted and managed in the Webex cloud.

Once the data is imported to Webex, there is some data mapping to be done. You can easily map Device pools from CUCM into Locations in Webex Calling, review phone number assignments and correct as needed, and verify phone/device eligibility for migration. All the above tools can be combined into one flow, to automate the overall migration process.

This validation exercise gave us a deeper comprehension of the Catalyst 9800 functionalities and helped us understand how to best approach the new configuration model; as a result, we are now able to simplify adoption, reduce error and downtime during the transition, and more quickly take advantage of the enhanced capabilities offered by the Catalyst 9800 Wireless LAN Controller.
