April 9th Specials: Beef Flat Iron $14 per lb (over 20% off). Beef Short Ribs $6 per lb (25% off) & Lamb Shoulder Roasts $8 per lb (20% off).
· We have a good supply of most every cut of lamb and beef, with the exception of marrow bones. Pre-orders are encouraged but not required.
· We are able to take additional quarter and half beef orders, as well as whole and half lamb orders. We are looking at delivery dates in approx. May for these orders.
· We have some meat lambs that were treated with antibiotics when they were very young that we need to find homes for. If you are interested in this antibiotic treated but grass-fed, non-hormone implanted, dry aged lamb let us know. The antibiotics were administered 10-11 months ago. We are looking at a 10% discount on these animals ($5.40 per carcass lb).
· We have a lots of sausage to choose from. Our current flavors include beef andouille, bratwurst, frankfurter, polish and sweet Italian. Lamb flavors include lamb and apple, garlic and rosemary, merguez and Italian lamb with sun dried tomato.
We enjoyed having John’s sister’s family here over Spring break last week. Grandpa’s house looks like a tornado hit since we began the process of sorting thru all of the treasures that he had accumulated. We didn’t tackle the really tough jobs, like sorting out who was going to get the family photographs but we did get most of the dressers emptied out, and items put with other similar items. We took several loads to the senior citizens thrift store, with several more to finish packing and take down.
We were able to get the sheep shorn in one long day, Friday. Thank goodness we had two shearers or we’d still be there. Thanks to a borrowed hydraulic wool press we didn’t have to tromp the wool into its bags manually, which is a serious job in and of itself.
Just after Easter we got 14 inches of snow, but it is mostly gone now. I was sure glad we weren’t lambing and calving last week during those snow storms. I know several of our neighbors didn’t get much sleep for a couple of days while they tended their herds.
We are hoping to get a bunch of things wrapped up before lambing and calving begin later this month. We’ve gotten our taxes dropped off, and applied for various farmers markets, but we still need to set our summer schedule and update the website. 8th Grade graduation, Job’s daughter grand session and officer installation will soon be upon us so we Becca and I spent 8 hrs looking for dresses yesterday. We found a dress for graduation, and one for grand session, but we still need a formal.
We appreciate your going with us on this journey. Finding a path for our small herd of cattle and sheep and the land we steward to support our family has not been easy. This path still has its inherent challenges, but knowing you are all going along for the ride with us helps so much.
