Does anyone else think that October is one of the best months to be in Seattle? I may be a little biased—my wife and I packed up our 21-pound cat on Halloween of 2014 and got on a plane having made the ballsy, yet intimidating choice to leave NYC after 12 years. October is the first respite from the summer heat. The drop in temperature is accompanied by shorter days, overcast skies, and naked trees. While some of those things may not excite you, they do stand as a very important reminder—we had a pretty unbelievable summer, but change happens.
Change can be good, too.
At the Latona, change means rolling out our Fall Menu, which sees the return of classics like the Latona Steamers, Kale Panzanella, Steak Salad, and Ravioli alongside new items like the Latona Cubano, Ham ‘n’ Gruyere Melt, and Pork Tacos.
It also means that—in addition to copious amounts of fresh hopped beers—we’ll be seeing some darker, higher-octane beers on tap.
Speaking of fresh hops, we had an incredible turnout for our Fresh Hop Festival at the end of September, and it was a warm welcome home for yours truly, who had literally stepped off of a plane after a week away in London. The list is far too extensive to single people out, so please accept this blanket “thank you” to everyone who came out to support the event and all of the brewers who pulled strings to help me put together one of the hoppiest damn tap lists I’ve seen around town. You guys are the real heroes, and the excitement for the season was felt throughout the whole pub.
And hey, if you missed it, no sweat.
We’ve still got some incredible fresh hopped beers on tap in the coming weeks (Cowiche Canyon, anyone?), so stop in, because you might be pleasantly surprised.
Our Summer Beer Series is over so we’re taking a little bit of a breather before heading into November, but we do have a couple of fun events going on this month. On Thursday, October 20th, the fine people at Stoup will be in the building with four taps of fine beers. The beers will be on tap all night, but the giveaways and festivities start around 8pm. Then, on Thursday, October 27th, we’ll be showing the original Ghostbusters on the big screen at 8pm with some great beers on tap from Fort George.
Then, there are some things that never change. Every Friday, you’ll still be able to catch Phil Sparks and his rotating cast of local talent for our Jazz Happy Hour from 5pm-7pm. Also, bluegrass returns to the Latona with the Wildhares at 8pm on Sunday, October 9th, immediately following the second presidential debate, which we’ll be showing on the projector at 6pm. Finally, come through on Sunday the 23rd to catch Alex Macleod and the Highball String Band at 7pm. Alex has been tearing it up on Sundays, and we’re happy to have him.
So, that’s fall for me—a little bit of change, a few things you can depend on, a bounty of great beers, and plenty of good company.
As always, thanks for making the Latona Pub your home.
Cheers!
