Hey everyone!

First, let me apologize for missing the September edition of the Latona Times. After the 30th anniversary blitzkrieg back in August, we needed to catch our breath.

That said, we’re back in full swing now!

About that week-long 30th anniversary: Bob, myself, and the rest of the Latona crew would like to extend a very sincere “thank you” to all of you who helped make every single event so much fun for us. The energy that the community brought to this momentous occasion was really something special. Any pub can pour a beer or grill a burger, but I can’t think of a single other bar that has a vibe like the Latona—and so much of that vibe is because of people like you. So, thanks for that, you really made it a special week.

After a celebration like that, there’s a feeling of, “well, what’s next?” Turns out, there’s a lot to look forward to.

First, it’s fresh hop season, and there is a pretty incredible selection of fresh hopped beers available at all three pubs. So many, in fact, that it may seem a little over-hyped. There’s something special about these beers, though—because of our proximity to the Yakima Valley (where 75% of the hops used in the U.S. are grown), fresh hops are uniquely available in the Pacific Northwest. So, join us in celebrating these beers at all three pubs, because your favorite local brewers have worked around the clock to make these rare, delicious beers.

As we are all aware, fires have been raging throughout the Gorge since last month. Tragically, people have lost homes, businesses, and property. Through the numerous and notable breweries located there, the Latona has strong ties to the Gorge, and we’re here to help. On Thursday, October 26th, we’re going to be teaming up with breweries like Double Mountain, Pfriem, Everybody’s, Backwoods, Logsdon, and Walking Man to raise some funds for Friends of the Columbia Gorge, a non-profit that works tirelessly to protect one of the most beautiful parts of the PNW. Music will be provided by The Highball String Band alongside some of their friends, and there will be some swag auctions as well.

On October 30th, we’re throwing a 4th birthday party for our friends at Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing, who are bringing out some really special sours from their taproom for the occasion. They may be out-of-towners, but they’re family to us, so let’s help them celebrate another year by raising a glass or two in their honor.

We’ve also rolled out our Fall menu, which sees the return of old favorites like the Latona Steamers, Cubano, and Kale Panzanella, alongside some new items like our Brussels Sprouts and Pork Schnitzel that have quickly become favorites. Treat yourself to a schnitzel and a pilsner, you deserve it.

Finally, we’ve got our jazz happy hour with Phil Sparks every Friday from 5pm-7pm and the Wild Hares will be here on Sunday, October 8th from 7pm-9pm with some bluegrass for ya.

Thanks again for making the Latona your neighborhood pub. It wouldn’t be the same without you.

Cheers,

Matt"
