April Latona Times

Hey folks! Welcome back to the Latona Times.

So, the bipolar spring of Seattle is upon us. The mornings may be grey, but days are long and bright enough to remind us that summer is right around the corner. Of course it doesn’t hurt to have all of those windows at the Latona, either.

In case you missed it, Reuben’s Brews took the championship home in our March IPA Madness Tournament, beating Stoup by a mere two pints. It was quite the scene at the Latona—standing room only—and between appearances from the folks at Reuben’s, Cloudburst, Stoup, and Georgetown there was a ton of brewing power in the house.

Next up at the Latona is Earth Week 2017! Our annual keg walks start on Saturday, April 15 with Georgetown, Two Beers, Seapine, Machine House, and Pike Brewing. Other walks include:

Sunday, 4/16 with RAM, Flying Bike, Naked City, Lantern Brewing, and Big Time Brewing

Wednesday, 4/19 with Hales, Maritime, Stoup, and Reuben’s Brews

Friday, 4/21, with Holy Mountain, Cloudburst, Fremont, and Mollusk Brewing

This year, however, there’s a very special keg trek that deserves serious props. Two of our intrepid bartenders—Jeff Wofford and Justin Ellenson—will be traveling to Fort George Brewing in Astoria, Oregon, and biking two kegs back to the Latona over the course of 4-5 days. Swift Industries has even agreed to sponsor the trip with some free biking gear, which is really incredible. They’ll be leaving town on April 16 and should return somewhere between April 20th and 21st. So when you see them this weekend, give them a huge pat on the back and congratulate them.

Besides the keg hauling, we have a couple fun Earth Week events at the pub this year.

First up, we’ve got an event benefitting Feet First on Wednesday, April 19th. Those folks have been doing a great job keeping Seattle pedestrian-friendly for many years, and we’re happy to support them again this year. Come by and learn about Feet First and drink a pint to support their efforts.

Then we’ve got our annual Earth Day Celebration Saturday 4/22, benefiting the Brewshed Alliance—protectors of the water supply that is so crucial to making quality beer in Washington. We’ll have the Highball String Band in the house plucking some bluegrass from 7pm to 9pm, so come on in and party with us—every beer on tap will have been delivered with zero emissions.

On Monday, April 17th, we’ll be releasing this month’s 30th Anniversary Beer for April—a hoppy citra pale that we brewed in collaboration with Naked City and Flying Bike. We had a blast brewing with Don Webb and Kevin Forhan. They’re awesome brewers and will be on hand that night for our 6:30pm Brewer’s Dinner in the loft, which will be followed by further festivities starting at 8:30pm. We’ve still got some seats available for the dinner, so let us know if you’d like to attend.

Aside from all that, we have a Planned Parenthood benefit with Melvin Brewing today, April 12th. Come check out the three beers on tap from Melvin Brewing, part of the proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood.

And—as always—our weekly Jazz Happy Hour with Phil Sparks from 5pm-7pm every Friday.

Whew, it’s a busy month at the Latona, ain’t it?

Thanks again for making the Latona your neighborhood pub. You folks have a real hand in making this place as great as it is, and we’re lucky to have you.

‘Til next time, cheers!

Matt
