Salvete omnes!
I apologize for the sizable break in the LVD--I just have not had
enough time to do it. I was going to stop writing it, for lack of
time, but a couple of awesome people offered to help me out by forming
a rotation to write it. If you would also like to be part of the
rotation, let me know! I'd be happy to have the help, and I can look
over/edit your entries if you'd like. The LVD lives on!
Since my last post was back in December, I wish all of you the best
for the remaining 10.5 months of 2011, and beyond!

thesaurus, thesauri
Definition: a treasure-chamber; a store-house; precious objects,
treasure
Sententia: St. Jerome's Vulgate, Matthew 6:23
ubi enim est thesaurus tuus ibi est et cor tuum.
For where your treasure is, there, too, is your heart.
The Vulgate was written by St. Jerome as a translation of the Bible
into Latin from Hebrew and Greek (for the Old and New Testaments
respectively). Written in the late 3rd century, it has no punctuation
since punctuation had not yet been invented at that time.
Thesaurus is borrowed from the Greek word θησαυρός (thesauros), also
meaning "treasure store." The idea of a thesaurus, a book of
connections between words, being a treasure-chest gives the linguist
in me joy.
