Hello everyone,

The Hispanic Youth Symposium is a national program where Latino high
school students get the opportunity to have the college experience.
This program is designed to get students to think about college, their
future professional lives, and the contributions they can make as
Latinos in the community. The annual Hispanic Youth Symposium will be
held at a local university and will consist of high school students
from the around area spending 4 days and 3 nights on campus.

200 high schools students and 26 Resident Assistants are chosen from a
pool of applicants to attend the symposium. High school students get
the opportunity to meet role models/Latino professionals in the
community, attend workshops that encourage leadership, and receive
additional information on topics such as the college application
process and how to finance college. The Resident Assistants, who are
college students or recent graduates, lead a familia, a group of 8-10
high school students. All students attend workshops to prepare them
academically and professionally including RAs, who will attend a set
of workshops designed for college students. Additionally, one resident
assistant has the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship while
participating in the 4-day program. For more details about the program
you can visit www.hispanicyouth.org

We are now looking for RAs for the symposium. To be an RA please fill
out the application here:
http://scholarships.hispanicfund.org/applications/subsectionid.1,pageid.170/default.asp
The deadline to apply is March 31st.

I was an RA last year at the DC and MD symposiums and had a great,
great time. Also, thanks to my wonderful students I came home with
$500. This summer, I will be the RA Coordinator for the DC symposium,
so I'd ask you to volunteer at that one if you can. Otherwise, feel
free to sign up for any of the other ones.

Thanks,

Fernando
