Hi Emre,

I have been using the elsarticle class a few times. Maybe you are having a conflict between packages ? Could you precise the error message you get ? Maybe you could upload the files removing the core of the article.

Hi everybody,I am writing a paper for submission to an Elsevier journal. They recommend elasarticle document class. I don't know how to install the .cls file. I downloaded the zip file  and unzipped the zip file and copied everything to the directory including my paper. I used elasarticle as a document class in my document. It could not produce a pdf document. I use Texnic center (with MikTex 2.9) under windows 7. I have read something about it but it did not work since there is no texmf file in my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Downloaded extras should go in subdirectories of your personal TeX folder.
See http://research.ucc.ie/latex/#d4664e346 (section 1.6.2) for instructions on where to create this.

I downloaded the zip file

If you used that, unzip it first into a temporary folder (eg Desktop/tmp) and then run
LaTeX on elsarticle.ins. This will extract the .cls file. You can then run LaTeX on the
elsarticle.dtx file which will create the documentation.

If you download the one from Elsevier, unzip it the same way. No processing is needed.

Either way: within your personal TeX folder, move the files to:

All .bst files go in texmf/bibtex/bst/
All .dtx, .ins, .tex, .cls, and .sty files go in texmf/tex/latex/elsevier/
The .pdf file goes in texmf/doc/latex/elsevier/

Remember, if you use MiKTeX you have to tell it to index your personal TeX folder, as described in the web page referred to above.

and unzipped the zip file and copied everything to the directory including my paper.

That will also work, except that any future papers will have to be written in the same folder. Using your personal TeX directory, it will work in any folder.

That is not a useful piece of information. What was the error message? Tell us what went wrong, and perhaps we can help. Spelling elsarticle right might help :-)

I don't think MiKTeX uses a texmf.cnf file (maybe it does, but I don't know). But you don't need it to install stuff in your personal TeX folder as described, so it's not relevant.

Perhaps using elsevier package from Miktex may help.
