Hi everyone,

I am using the apalike style together with the natbib package to
generate my bibliography.
Everythink is fine so far, apart from the fact, that in the
bibliography, all notes from the bib-file are added at the end of
every entry.

I use the note field to write personal comments and to track back my
reading habits, so it is not intended to get printed.

I like the apalike style and would prefer to stay with it. For sure, I
could manually delete all the entries in the bib file before compiling
the final version. But I wonder if anyone might come up with a smarter
version for either (i) make apalike to ignore the note field or (ii)
delete the notes in the final bib file without going through every
entry manually.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Have you tried apacite instead? (doesn't need natbib)

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was not aware of a real alternative to
natbib.
So I just tried if apacite solves the problem.

Indeed, the notes are no longer displayed.
Instead, now the URL field (where I retrieved the articles from) are
listed in the bibliography...
So, the case is not solved but was rather displaced.

Any other ideas?

Cheers,
Michael

Hello, Michael

I use JabRef (it is free) to organize my references. Then, I will use
apacite for my articles. I never have any problem with JabRef even
though I also put in a lot of personal notes.

Sincerely,

Biru

Hello, Michael

I use JabRef (it is free) to organize my references, then I use apacite
in my articles. It is much easier. I also put personal notes and
article URL in JabRef and I never had this displaying problem.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Biru

natbib is just a fix for people wanting author-year citations. It has long been superseded by the many other formats (of which apacite is just one).

That's correct. That's part of the American Psychological Association format.

Use a different format. Chicago, Oxford, MLA, Vancouver,...there are dozens.
And there are all the journal formats...

Hi,

If you want to put nonprinting notes, you should only separate note and other text with %. This should be made in .bbl file, if you use bibtex file, or directly in bibliography environment.

Sincerely,

Zlatko
