Did you try
\usepackage[a5paper]{geometry}
in your document preamble? The geometry package is available online
via CTAN from
http://tug.ctan.org/cgi-bin/ctanPackageInformation.py?id=geometry

sir/mam
i did try that package. (was available with latex2e by default). but the output alignment gets lost. there are very few lines per page and also diagrams/tables/figures lost their alignment. i also tried dvips -t a5 command. output document loses alignment as before. is there any other way of doing it. also i have 12 pt,1.5 line spacing set in the document.

thank u very much for the immediate response.

Dear Siva,

Then there must be something else that you're doing in your LaTeX
document preamble. The following MINIMAL example produces an A5 page
with 1.5 line spaced text for me:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}

\usepackage{lipsum,setspace}
\usepackage[a5paper]{geometry}

\begin{document}

\onehalfspacing

\lipsum[1-10]

\end{document}

Perhaps you can submit your preamble and we can have a look at it.
Otherwise, remove a package at a time and see which package overrides
your A5 page specification.

Hello Mr. Selvan,

Don't worry about the lipsum package. It just generates a lot of dummy
lines of text (the famous Lorem Ipsum) to be used as example (so you
don't need o manually type when experimenting). See details for Lorem
Ipsum on wikipedia.

About your main problem, I see that just setting the geometry option
does *not* create an A5-sized output, at least not on plain latex on
Miktex 2.7 (which I use). However, you may use PDFLatex to produce the
correct output.

If you do need the DVI/PS feature, then you need to change the paper
option on your current LaTeX distribution. I don't know what will work
for you, but on Miktex, it's the Paper option on the first tab of the
Miktex Settings window. If I ever need to produce a DVI/PS in such
circunstances, I always need to manually set the paper size there,
too. At least here on Miktex. As always, "your mileage may vary".

Since I never need DVIs, I would just use pdflatex, with all its
inherent benefits. However, that's the typical opinion of a 22 yrs old
lazy xelatex user. ;)
