Caption package update method

Hi I have a problem while compiling the document after I added the use of the "subcaption" package.

Here is the error I have : 

"C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex\caption\subcaption.sty"

LaTeX Warning: You have requested, on input line 38, version

`2012/03/25' of package caption,

but only version

`2004/05/16 v3.0b Customising captions (AS)'

is available.

! Undefined control sequence. "

I have tried to change the caption.sty file to a later version just by replacing the content of the file 

C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex\caption\caption.sty

with the later version that I found on the internet but it did not work.

Anyone knows how to change to version of the package caption?

Anna,

Since you're using MiKTeX, you should follow the guidelines on how to update your TeX distribution specific to MiKTeX. That is, via the MiKTeX Package Manager (MPM). If you've fiddled with the caption package .sty, you may want to uninstall it and the re-install it.
