Does anyone know of a recital program format? Thoughts on whether
LaTeX should really be used for such an application?

I would think that recital programs would be a perfect application for LaTeX. When musicians and music schools create recital programs these are programs that generally maintain a layout template across performances and would greatly benefit from the enhanced typography.

While I have not found a recital template in a google search, I would imagine that you could find a resume template and make modifications for recitals. You can find resume templates through a google search. Once you have created a basic template, you can use that over and over again for recitals.

Thomas,

I recently did a recital at IU (Master of Music, Horn) and created
my own program. Latex creates beautiful programs!! I think it took a
while to get an horizontal line before and after 'intermission,' but
everything else was straight-forward. I would be glad to send you my
document if you wish. (I don't have it with me, it's at home).
Perhaps this will be the bait that gets me into programming my first
LateX package...ha! I've been avoiding it...

Aaron,

I'd appreciate it if you would send your program - it'd be great to
use it to work off of. I've not done much with LaTeX besides a lot of
physics papers, but would now like to use it for a my small vocal
group's recital (in two months - I'm way ahead on this one because
there are so many academic things I should be doing instead).
Congrats on your horn recital (whenever that was), and thanks.

(I previously mistakenly addressed this post to Kevin, and am new to
Google Groups, so not sure if that one will show up)
