A tour of recent and upcoming developments with classifiers in Mahout with particular attention to how they can be creatively misused for interesting applications.

Specifically, Ted will provide a tour of the hashed vector encoding utilities and the stochastic gradient descent learning framework.  Ted will describe how evolutionary programming and per-term annealing combine to give very impressive learning performance on large sparse problems.  Latent-factor log-linear models are coming before too long in the same framework.  Depending on time and level of interest, Ted will demonstrate how a classification farm can be built out of things you have around the house.

Ted Dunning is a core commiter on the Apache Mahout project and co-author of Mahout In Action (http://bit.ly/MahoutInAction) Get 35% off all Manning.com publications by using the coupon code newmeap35
