lasmerge in QGIS

Hi all, having the following problem when trying to use lasmerge in QGIS - what am I doing wrong with my FILE2? Ant help is massively appreciated.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for the feedback. I just upgraded to the latest QGIS 2.16 and noted also a similar but different issue with lasmerge. Either these kinds of errors (see attached screenshot) had gone unnoticed for years (?!?) or something has changed in the way that parameters are evaluated. 

Maybe use the stand-alone LAStools GUIs or the command line until this is resolved.

Ah ok, do you think it's a problem with the latest QGIS?

Would it perhaps work if I used a previous version?

I also noted that the QGIS gui won't accept .las but only .laz for all files after the first.
