Hello Martin,

I have a question for you.
I have a LAZ file with the CHM value store in an Extra-Byte. I was trying to rasterize this extra-bytes using the QGIS toolsbox but seems impossible...

Can you confirm this, and if not, can you tell me how to achieve this...

Cheers.
Antoine

Hello Antoine,

Currently it is not possible to rasterize attributes stored as "extra bytes" in an LAS or LAZ file with LAStools and that is neither festive nor seasonal ... (-:

For more merry days ahead adding this functionality is definitely required. Let's  hope you have not been too much more naughty than nice. Maybe you could send Santa a link to a sample LAZ file that has normalized heights stored as "extra elves" via an off-list message to ho_h...@rapidlasso.com and I'll try to pull some (harp) strings for you ... (-:

Happy Holidays!!!

Hello Antoine,

the features you have requested have been added to lasgrid and las2dem. In the latest version 160106 you can now specify

lasgrid -i lidar.laz -step 2 -fill 1 -attribute 0 -o dem.bil

or

las2dem -i lidar.laz -step 0.5 -attribute 0 -false -o dem.png

Other new features in the 160106 release are:

- lasgrid, las2dem: can raster '-attribute [0|1|2...]' stored as "Extra Bytes"
- lasground: option '-by_flightline' allows to ground-classify flightlines separately
- LAStools: parse 'pcs.csv' file whenever an unknown EPSG code is encountered
- las2las & txt2las: create OGC WKT string for CRS for full LAS 1.4 compliance
- all GUIs: can create a directory when browsing for one via pop-up window

There is also the prototype of a new tool called "laspublish" that is based on Potree. More on that one later but give it a try if you are curious ...
