NEW!!! How to test LAStools in DEMO MODE (without license)

With version 250219:

“-fail” is the new default setting (if there is no license or an invalid/expired license). If you want to test LAStools without license, run LAStools with the „-demo“ argument.

For quality tests, use small samples up to 1.5 million points. For performance tests, use point clouds of any size. Output distortions (noise, diagonal lines) are related to license protection.

Sample command of large DEM creation in demo mode and multi-core processing:

las2dem64 -i *.laz -odir output -step 0.5 -use_tile_bb -cores 16 -demo

Hello, I'm trying to evaluate the lasground (version 250304) tool to potentially buy a commercial license. This is my first time in a long time using lastools. I have a cloud of 3M points and when I run

lasground -cpu64 -i "mycloud.las" -wilderness -olas -demo

I get the following error:

Please note that LAStools is not "free" (see http://lastools.org/LICENSE.txt)
contact 'in...@rapidlasso.de' to clarify licensing terms if needed.
ERROR: cannot understand argument '-demo'

Am I doing something wrong here?

Hi Luke,

the old 32 bit version is only available for downwards compatibility. Please use the 64 bit versions were ever possible.

Please use something like 

    lasground64 -i "mycloud.las" -wilderness -olas -demo

to evaluate.

Just as a note: The old version could be evaluated just as before - you do not need a special argument.
