lasview is too slow on Windows 11

lasview.exe \many_tiles\*.laz

I recently switched to Windows 11, and when I tried to view the point cloud tiles, let's say 130 small files in *.laz format, lasview was very slow. That is, while the cloud used to display in 2 minutes on my old Windows 10 machine, it now takes 15 minutes.

I already ran CMD as administrator, and that didn't fix it. I adjusted lasview's compatibility with Windows 7 or Windows 10, and it didn't work either.

What do you think could be happening?

Best regards.

Hello,

Are you sure Windows 11 is the problem? In my case, the virtual client caused the issue because it doesn't have a gpu.

Best regards

Hi Claudia,
thanks for this hint. Yes, a missing GPU or missing OpenGL capability would cause a much slower behavior.
By the way: lasview is not maintained anymore. Consider to use laslook to display point clouds and run LAStools commands in a more modern workbench.

Cheers,

Jochen @rapidlasso
