Hi all,

We have released a new LASzip version (3.5.0) that supports LAS 1.5: https://github.com/LASzip/LASzip. LAStools now supports LAS 1.5 & LAZ 1.5.

Cheers,
Silke

Hi Silke,

I have not seen any LAS 1.5 files (probably producers don't want to use the format until they know all software supports it).  I would like to try files before I need them to be sure everything works well (and if anything adds useful new capabilities).  A google search did not help.

Do you know where I can get a sample of 1.5 to play around with?

Peter

Hi Peter,

Indeed, that always takes a while. You can easily create LAS/LAZ 1.5 files using the (open-source) tool *las2las*:

    las2las64 -i lake.laz -o lake15.laz -set_version 1.5 -v

LAStools las2las (by
in...@rapidlasso.de) version 251223
WARNING: upgrading point_data_format from 1 to 6 and point_data_record_length from 28 to 30
reading 102622 and writing all surviving points ...
total time: 0.06 sec. written 102622 surviving points to 'lake15.laz'.

>> the verbose log indicates that the point format has been changed.

You can also run the (open-source) tool *lasinfo* to check the result:

    lasinfo64 -i lake15.laz

Cheers,
Silke
