New Tool: las2dem_new64

Hi all,

after month of intensive work, we are pleased to announce the release of las2dem_new64:

  • complete redesign of las2dem.
  • processes large files significantly faster while retaining the popular „spike free“ argument, resulting in smoother output .
  • combines the speed of blast2dem with the ability of las2dem to perform spike-free operations (which blast2dem cannot do due to the architecture of the algorithm).

Since las2dem_new64 is a completely new development, the output is similar to las2dem, but not binary compatible. Therefore, it is being released as a new tool. For a general speed increase and multi-core processing, tiling very large datasets is still recommended. However, las2dem_new64 offers the ability to generate spike-free models significantly faster overall.

Further information about las2dem_new64 can be found in the corresponding README file: https://downloads.rapidlasso.de/html/las2dem_new_README.html.

Thank you for using LAStools!
Cheers,
Silke

I was testing this tool out yesterday but for the life of me couldn't get it to export a proper -hillshade. Elevation values seem to be all it would render for me. I tested it with a few different datasets and am pleased with the results regardless. Thanks for continuing to maintain and improve lastools!

Thank you very much!
We're glad you find the updates helpful. Our team is doing its best to keep everything up to date and expand LAStools :-) Regarding your issue: Could you please provide us with a small sample dataset where the hillshade rendering isn't displayed as expected and describe the problem in detail so we can investigate it? You can send this to in...@rapidalsso.de.

Many thanks!
Silke
