I was trying to combine some data that is for the same geographical area, but from two different scans in lastools. However when i load them up, they appear miles apart, but when i load the data in qgis they are appropriately overlapping.

Anyone know why this is happening, and how i might correct it?

It's a bit hard to say without the files or at least their `lasinfo` output.

For starters, did you verify they have the same projection embedded in the header?

Hello,

Typically this happens when your two files from the same area are in different projections. Or maybe one is in long/lat coordinates and the other in UTM. Or maybe one is in a local coordinate system such as the various "state planes" in the US and the other is UTM. To find this out you should prepare two lasinfo reports and look at both (1) for projection information and (2) at the bounding box of your LiDAR.

You will most often be able to use las2las to convert one projection to match the other. Why do the results appear at the right place in QGIS? That suggests that both files contain projection information and that the derivatives you are displaying (such as a hillshade or a DTM) correctly carries through this info.

Regards,

Martin
