I am having problems getting the output .las file from lasmerge to end up in the folder where I want it.  I'm pretty new to this and generally have problems making things work when they involve more than a few clicks.  It's bad, I know.  So I think I just need a basic explanation of how to specify where I want files to end up.  I see the "output" box in the GUI, but typing in the directory path there doesn't seem to be working.  What am I supposed to be doing?

Hi Megan,

My mistake, you should use -odir <path>, for example -odir d:\tesera ... the -o switch is used for mainly the output filename specification.

Hi Megan,

within the command line you specify

Megan,

If you press the button with the three dots '...' that is next to the entry field for the directory then a browse window opens where you can select a directory.

That said ... usually it is not necessary to merge LAS or LAZ files explicitely into a file on disk with lasmerge as you can always merge on-the-fly with the '-merged' option and save one processing step as well as a lot of IO and disk space ...

Hello Megan,

ahhh ... you are using the (rather old) lastool.exe. This GUI that combines many LAStools into one is rather old (from the days before each LAStools had a GUI) and does ot get updated very often. If you start lasmerge.exe directly (via double-click) then a GUI will open that is specific to lasmerge only and this one will have an "output" rollout in the top right corner where the button with the three '...' dots is visible.

Regards,

Martin @rapidlasso
