Hello,

My three Potree portals are maxing out the Webspace of my Alumni account at UNC so to continue to create small portals like this - and some a little larger - I am looking for a good Web hosting place.

Simple SSH login. Linux box. Cannot be deleted by US government order. Small edits of HTML source possible for tinkering with portals look and feel. Reasonably priced.

I don't really need cloud-like scalability. This is for a number of community-based projects in the vicinity of where I live, maybe a few time-series, but small, frequently edited or added to content of areas that I am familiar with. This is not for covering entire states or countries.

What is hosting your Potrees ... ?

Hi Martin,

I can't tell you how good the web-hosting is, but the vps are very fast and well priced.

A small provider, not the latest server tech but triple A support. If there is an issue, the support is always fast and good. My personal stuff is running there more than 7 years and I never had something to complain.

Hello,

For Sao Paulo data we are using AWS Simple Storage, if you wanted, here our github  https://github.com/geoinfo-smdu?page=2
Recently we are using Github links to store some tiny files (50 MB maximum size), maybe you could break your file in various links.

Hello,

AWS S3 is a cheap way to go. I pay less than $2/month for storing points clouds and running a personal website. I only have 5 clouds displayed on the below link, but have many more stored in S3 that I have yet to link to my site.

Good morning all,

We use Atis.cloud.
This platform is very practical because it automatically manages the creation of the potree.
It is able to read .las .laz but also fixed scans such as e57 and Recap file too.
And all of this secure.
It is also used as a Drive, because the space is 5 Tb for 20 € / month.
In summary it's full managed, on drop the file and just check the potree, and we can also extract point or generate a rcp file too.

Hello,

I have still not decided on a solution for this. I want a host that provides a simple and no frills Apache Web interface where I can - if needed - login via putty.exe or and hand edit the HTML sources to add a small label, a new building or another point cloud to an existing Potree  The flashy ads of the companies suggested so far don't really advertise this kind of old school access. Also ... maybe new options have emerged?

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,
I am not sure if it will fit your needs, but the Virtual Private Server (VPS) option from hosting company we use for our webpage, https://www.forpsi.com/?lang=en-us , might be of use to you.
It is a dedicated virtual Linux box, with SSH access, imho reasonably priced (less than 3,5 EUR per month for cheapest (20Gb SSD capacity / 2TB monthly transfer) option). Datacenter is in Czech Republic, so the US should have no jurisdiction there.
I never used this option, but I am very happy with my experiences with CMS webhosting from this company so far.

Best regards,
Michal

Hi,

We tried a Virtual Private Server by Strato in the past, but the maximum number of files was very limited, which quickly caused issues. We then moved to a dedicated server. The hardware will be overkill for your purpose, but unfortunately that seems to be the only way to get a real Linux server without limitations.

Regards,

Tobias
