Hello,

I am working with .laz files from a Velodyne system with 16 scanner rings. It seems that a common problem with Velodyne systems is missing data for return_number and number_of_returns. So, I am using the las2txt tool to convert my .laz files to .txt and will calculate this data manually. I need to retain the ring number in my output text file but I do not see it as an option when I am selecting the data for parsing. Is there a way to retain the ring number or can this feature be added? Thanks in advance

Kind regards,
Katie

Hi Katie,
the "ring number" is no part of the LAS standard. So I guess Velodyne store this data in another data field.
If you provide a (small) sample I can have a look or may another LAStools user can give you information about.
Right now I think we can export everything out of a LAS file to text.
May you also just try out all parameters and see where the ring number shows up :)

Best regards,

Dear Jochen,

I was able to export it as an additional attribute stored as extra bytes, for example -parse 0, so seems like it is basically already implemented. Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,
Katie
