Hi all

I am trying to process some lidar results, but when i try and put the first file through las2dem, i get the following error:

LAStools command line

C:\LAStools\bin\las2dem -i "E:\Main map + data\data\Lidar point cloud\laz\ST5555_P_10631_20190117_20190117.laz" -step 1.0

LAStools console output

Hello,

this is simple. Too many input points. Use blast2dem instead of las2dem.

Regards,

Martin

Dear Martin,

I am running into the same issue as OP. I am working on my labs server which is only able to run 64 bit exe so I am not able to use the blast2dem tool. Is there possibly another work around or will we have to install 32 bit wine

Thanks so much,
Katie

Hello,

there is a 64 bit version of las2dem that can be activated with the switch '-cpu64' or by directly calling las2dem64 but there have been reports that this version results in the occasional missing pixel (it seems the floating point arithmetic behaves different) and I have not been able to find, confirm, or fix this bug so far. Hence blast2dem seems your best option at the moment.

Dear Martin,

I am able to run las2dem but not blast2dem as there is no 64 bit executable for blast2dem. I have a very large lidar dataset, so based on other comments it seems that only blast2dem will be able to handle my files, rather than las2dem. Is there a way to run blast2dem with 64 bit wine or would we need another work around?

Thanks so much,
Katie

Hello,

Unfortunately you will need another work-around as blast2dem only exists in 32 bits and that is unlikely to change soon.

Martin

Thanks Martin

Another few questions:

1) how can i change a bunch of files names at once, for example from ST5550_P_10631_20190117_20190117.laz to ST5550_P_10631_20190117_20190117_dem.tif, rather than have to go through and manually enter the new filename and ending?

2) will lasground work with larger files, as i wish to change the terrain type to archaeology
