Is there any reason why e572las64 is not included in the sources of the set of tools I can build from scratch ?

As distributed, this is built against a specific environment, which makes it non-runnable on different Linux distributions. For example on RHEL7:

$ ./e572las64

./e572las64: /lib64/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.27' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.8' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.9' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.25' not found (required by ./e572las64)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.8' not found (required by LASlib.so)

./e572las64: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.9' not found (required by LASlib.so)

Distributing sources means it can be built for any Linux distributions, as well as hardwares (like ARM64) or Unix platforms (like macOS).

Hi Albert,
the e572las tool is complete separate of LAStools and has separate dependencies.
While most of our users use windows, with the Linux port we now cover almost all users.
Missing dependencies or version mismatch within Linux should be able to solve with the LD_PRELOAD environment variable.
Maybe we will release e572las as an open source tool someday, right now we are quite happy to have this step done.

Best regards,

Jochen @rapidlasso
