Hello,

wow. I was blown away by the response. The interest in QGIS is quite a
bit bigger than I expected. Sorry guys for letting you wait for so
long ... (-:

First download and install QGIS 2.01-Dufour from
http://download.qgis.org/ and then follow these detailed
instructions. For each step there is a screenshot attached.

0) if you already started QGIS then exit the application. now delete
the entire folder C:\Program Files\QGIS
Dufour\apps\qgis\python\plugins\processing\lidar and put the lidar
folder that is inside the attached *.zip file into its place (rename
*.zup to *.zip) .

1) start QGIS. if there is an error you messed up step 0. now enable
the Processing Toolbox as shown in the picture.

2) switch the processing toolbox from "Simplified Interface" to
"Advanced Interface" as shown in the picture.

3) go to the "options and configuration" sub menu of "Processing" as
shown in the picture.

4) check the "Activate" button for "Providers->Tools for LiDAR data"
and fill in the path to your local LAStools folder as shown in the
picture and press okay. You need the most recent LAStools version
(!!!).

5) Now you should see the "Tools for LiDAR data" in the toolbox and
all the LAStools as in the picture. For a test start lasground via
double click ...

6) Fill in the settings as shown and press run. Should take just a few
seconds. Extra excercise ... look at the file you just created by
running lasview from the toolbox. Yay!

7) Look what I can create with two quick calls to las2dem and las2iso
... sooo easy.

Kudos to Victor for his effort in creating this whole framework and
also providing the original example scripts for the LAStools toolbox
that I just had to follow ...

Hi,

I'm having this error when I try to activate lastools in QGIS like in step 8: http://rapidlasso.com/2013/09/29/how-to-install-lastools-toolbox-in-qgis/. I have done all the previous steps. Any clues?

Thanks!

Best,

João

Seems to me you are using a (Portugese?) special character that is not part of the default ASCII character set somewhere. Maybe a path name that includes the 'ã' of your first name? Don't do that ... (-:

Hi Martin,
You did it again! Just tested it, runs great!!!
Just one trivial request: Could you hide the command window (e.g. "Algorithm lasview started" window when it is run and place the opened viewer window within the map window space of QGIS?

I know this is a small question, but it could be lots of programming work, but it could help with further processing and analysis tasks if this could be done...

Awesome stuff,
Patrick

Hello

I am getting this error (see below) when starting QGIS and am not seeing the processing menu item. And I followed step 0!

I checked the install log and there were a couple of references to SIP...

Please see attached screen shots.

Kind Regards, Phil

Just tested with 32bit version of QGIS. After some initial errors due to an antiquated version of lastools, it now runs perfectly! Installed latest lastools version and everything was fine!

Also works great with raster tools - slope, aspect, shaded relief, contours...

One thing to remember is to have your project CRS set up before embarking on interesting work. Had some issues with raster derivatives ending up warped far from the original files. Easy fix though :)

Hello,
could you please help me to solve the problem with  QGIS 2.0.1 Dufour installation?
After starting it, I have received the error message concerning Microfot Visual C++ Runtime Library.
Maybe it is also worth to mention that I have got Windows 8  operating system. Is it possible to install QGIS with LasTools toolbox in Windows 8?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,
Malgosia Mendela
