Updated the Aadhar address in December. The soft copy I can download on the website and basically use that everywhere. But there are instances where I need the original hard copy. As per the guidelines, it is mandatory to carry a Government issued photo identification (ID) proof along with the E-Ticket for domestic flights in India. The same is verified by the airport security as well as the airline at the check in counter. The valid photo identification documents allowed are: Valid Passport / Driving License / Election Voter Card / Ration Card/ Aadhar Card/ PAN Card/ Photo Identity cards issued by Government On presenting your photo ID proof and E-Ticket copy, your boarding pass will be issued. You need to present the original copy of the ID proof.

Also, as per Air India Support, a photocopy of the ID will not work. Because at the airport they accept only the original proof of identity, they will not accept any photocopy of the proof of identity. To avoid any inconvenience at the airport, please ask your friend to carry an affidavit which will be accepted. In addition to this, you can carry an Affidavit from a Notary Public (preferably with your photo over the Affidavit) stating your name and address etc. which will work as your identity document.

This Affidavit you can easily get from Notary officials sitting near the court area, or any office which you know and you can tell them that you need it for this purpose. You may need to show them your Passport copy and Adhaar card copy (preferably color printed) to prove your identity. They may charge you some fee for this document.

The Centre on Sunday clarified the press release issued by the ministry of electronics and information technology which had advised people to not share the photocopy of their Aadhaar cards with any organisation. The press release was issued on May 27 and it triggered panic over information stealing as the ministry statement said Aadhaar card numbers can be misused. Later, the ministry issued a clarification claiming that the earlier advice is being withdrawn with immediate effect as there is a possibility of misinterpretation.

In a notification, issued on May 27, which now stands withdrawn, the ministry of electronics and information technology said organisations which have obtained a user license from the UIDAI can use Aadhaar for establishing the identity of a person. Private entities like hotels or film halls are not entitled to keep copies of Aadhaar cards, the earlier press release said.

"Unlicensed private entities like hotels or film halls are not permitted to collect or keep copies of Aadhaar cards. It is an offence under the Aadhaar Act 2016. If a private entity demands to see your Aadhaar card, or seeks a photocopy of your Aadhaar card, please verify that they have a valid User License from the UIDAI," the earlier release said.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has cautioned Aadhaar cardholders against sharing their Aadhaar photocopy with any organization as a precautionary step against Aadhaar misuse. UIDAI, which is supervised by the Government of India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), has said in an official announcement that Do not share photocopy of your Aadhaar with any organizations because it can be misused. Alternatively, please use a masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4-digits of your Aadhaar number."

UIDAI recommends visiting those organizations who have got a user license from UIDAI and may utilize Aadhaar to authenticate a person's identification in order to download e-Aadhaar safely. Unlicensed private entities, such as hotels or movie theaters, are not allowed to collect or keep copies of Aadhaar cards, and if a private entity demands the same, one should verify the entity's legitimate UIDAI user license.
