So, after doing a lot of research, and being unable to fix my mystery
crashes (even with Stefan's help), I think I found a replacement controller.

Because I have all the needed power supplies and stuff I just got the
basic controller kit.
First bit of good news -- the cable that goes from the UI/panel to the
stepper driver is roughly 2m long. That means I can make an enclosure
for the front stage left and run the cable to the stepper motors/PSU
where the current PC board is located.

If you were standing near the place where the lasersaur table touches
my welding table (the table with drinks and a laptop), it would be at
the front, on the side, and at a roughly 45 degree angle as I work
standing.
Once this is installed, I'll be looking at new CO2 lasers. There's one
for about $2700 (shipped to PA, US) that is a 200W drop-in replacement:

That's half the cost of a used 80W Rabbit, but I'll pay that much for a
bigger bed and twice the cutting power.
