TCF Canada is intended for anyone 16 years of age or over, regardless of their nationality or native tongue, who needs to certify their level of French as part of the procedures for economic immigration to Canada or for obtaining Canadian citizenship.

As of January 2022, the Test de connaissance du franais Intgration, Rsidence, Nationalit (TCF IRN), newly introduced by the French Ministry for the Interior, allows you to certify your level of French proficiency for French nationality, for a long-term resident card, and as part of the citizen course.

The TCF (Test de connaissance du franais), designed by France Ėducation International (FEI) and accredited by the French Ministry of Education, is a French language proficiency test for non-native speakers of French who have their proficiency level certified for professional, academic, or personal reasons.

PrepMyFuture is an e-learning platform that offers autonomous exam preparation for the TEF, TCF, DELF B1, and DELF B2 exams. The PrepMyFuture exam preparation platforms cost between $39 and $49, depending on the exam.

The TEF is officially recognized since 2004 by the French Ministry of National Education and assesses the written and oral French language skills of all foreign students applying for undergraduate university enrollment in France.

You are exempt from a French test if you already hold a TCF for the DAP, a DELF B2, a DALF C1/C2, a French baccalaureate (issued by the French Ministry of Education), or if you are a student from one of the French bilingual sections that appears on the list established by the French Ministries of National Education and Foreign Affairs.

You are also exempt from the French test if you come from a French-speaking country or a country where French is an official language (provided that you have completed all of your secondary education in French-language institutions).

The list of countries where French is an official language: Burundi, Canada, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Haiti, Madagascar, Mauritania (except Arabic-speaking countries), Rwanda, Seychelles, Switzerland and Vanuatu.

Le franais des affaires is committed to serving test takers with disabilities, health-related needs or in a computer-illiteracy situation. Candidates with special needs have to contact the exam center before registering to submit their request.

To obtain special arrangements, the candidat must provide a certificate to the exam centre: the certificate has to be filled out by a medical doctor (MD) and has to indicate the type of disability. If the disability allows the candidate to sit for the test, the MD has to indicate which accommodations should be provided to the candidate (Braille version, Extended Test Time, Assistance, etc).

In case of computer-illiteracy, acknowledged by the exam center, support solutions or test accomodations should also be provided to the candidate, such as the option of taking the written expression test on paper.

The Test de connaissance du franais (TCF) is a language placement test for non-native speakers of French. It is administered by the Centre international d'tudes pdagogiques (CIEP) for the French Ministry of Education. It fulfils French language entry requirements, can be used to demonstrate language ability for job applications or for personal use, and is used by Canada or Qubec for immigration procedures.

Level C1 and C2 indicate advanced mastery of French. French university Sciences-Po uses TCF level C1 as the primary language prerequisite for evaluating the abilities of non-native speakers to follow academic discussions and carry out academic research in the French language.

This part consists of 20 questions and takes 20 minutes to complete. These questions test the ability of candidates to master the structure of the language, from basic to more complex communicative situations, by:

The spoken expression examination takes the form of a one-to-one interview with an examiner, which lasts for 15 minutes maximum. Preparation is not required for this examination. The questions are divided into six levels, from level A1 to level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The interview is recorded and sent to the CIEP for centralized assessment after the examination.

This examination includes six exercises that get progressively more difficult, each of which corresponds to one of the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (level A1 to level C2). Candidates have 1 hour 45 minutes to complete this examination.

We now understand what TEF is and how it works, but how are the scores calculated? When it comes to the immigration test, TEF Canada is evaluated using CLB levels, which range from 4 to 10. Tout tudiant qui est mis en probation pour le motif de connaissance insuffisante du franais doit suivre et russir le cours LIN1002 Connaissances de base en grammaire du franais crit ou se soumettre d'autres mesures particulires que l'Universit juge appropries et qui satisfassent aux mmes exigences. Il appartient alors la Direction de son programme de lui fixer, s'il y a lieu, les autres conditions ayant trait au cheminement suivre et aux dlais pour le raliser. Ces mesures peuvent notamment consister dans le refus d'inscription des cours du programme.
