This class is designed for those who wish to adopt and learn to use a shotgun for home defense and become more proficient in the use of and care for a home defense shotgun.
While most any shotgun can be used for home defense, I recommend using one specifically made for it. For example, you can bring your 28" barrel Wingmaster but you might not find it practical for tactical or home defense use. I don't recommend using a shotgun for home defense that has a barrel length of more than 18" t0 20."
As such, most hunting, trap, skeet, "double-barrelled" or sporting clay shotguns are NOT suitable for this class.
A good example of a home defense shotgun is the classic 12ga Remington 870 pump shotgun. Another example is the 12ga Mossberg 500 or tactical variant. They can be either pump or semi-automatic.
If your shotgun has "red dot" or other types of tactical optics, lasers, or "white lights", those are fine too.
Shotguns with a combination of shoulder stock and pistol grip are fine...but, I DO NOT advocate shotguns with pistol grips only. We will be doing a LOT of shooting, and your hand will not last the day if you have just a pistol grip.
If you have something other than a Remington 870, bring your owner's manual to ensure we both can figure out how to disassemble/reassemble your shotgun.
Bring a shotgun cleaning kit.
Bringing a handgun is optional. If you bring one, also bring a strong-side belt holster and sturdy belt. For those who do bring handguns, we will also learn about failure drills.
Since this is a very intensive class, enrollment is limited to 8 students. This will be a combination of classroom (morning) and range time (afternoon).
AMMO: Regular 12ga loads, 50 rounds of #4 buck, and 50 rounds of #00 buck
PROTECTION: Eye and ear protection is mandatory
DO NOT BRING MAGNUM LOADS, EVEN IF YOUR SHOTGUN CAN HANDLE MAGNUMS!
