Impacts of CCGT plant Cycling

All,

We just included two articles on plant cycling in the August issue of
POWER.  One was authored by Aptech, the other by EPRI.

Admittedly, these are more how-to" articles rather than "how much," but
Aptech did provide us some typical cycling cost data based on their
experience. The range of cycling costs for a typical 500 MW coal-fired
plant, based on different operating scenarios, will be helpful in this
discussion. From a utility point of view, these costs are the price to
be paid for reduced equipment life as well as other O&M impacts to the
plant's budget.

It mentions heat rate degradation of 2 to 20 percent due to cycling of
CCGTs.
