Hi everyone!
This has been a great week at the Renaissance Festival as we
continue preparing for our 2011 season! We have a lot of folks working
on construction projects including major rehab on structures in the
Renaissance Living History Center area, building a new Birds of Prey
muse, as well as several other expansion and renovation projects
around the site. I want to thank all the volunteers that came out to
help, especially the ROTC Cadets from Ponchatoula. Your work will be
noticed by a lot of folks in the very near future!
The wine tasting tickets have been selling well with half of our
dates currently sold out and another quarter of our dates having five
or fewer seats remaining. It is pretty much guaranteed that the wine
tasting will be sold out soon, so if you are interested in this
fantastic experience you need to order your tickets soon! Visit
http://larf.org/events/2011-wine-tasting-event for more details.
I just found out that we have another event that will be taking
place at the Wine Tasting cottage this year. Come join everyone's
favorite Scottish wench, Bonnie Mackinlay, as she takes you on a
tasting tour of all five whiskey -producing regions of Scotland! You
will receive six samples of single malt whiskeys from well-known
distilleries, plus a sixth surprise tasting. This year, Bonnie
actually returned to her homeland and visited several distilleries and
breweries herself, and is eager to share all her new knowledge of
Scotch whiskey with you! As Bonnie "knows" everyone in the village,
she will be joined by several fellow reprobates...er,
entertainers...that will be sure to have you laughing and singing
along. However, please leave the wee bairns behind - this is a
strictly "adults only" show, as the humor can extend far into the
"rated R" range! Bring your toasts, pipes, cigars, and join us in a
salute to the country that produces some of the finest liquor in the
world. The price is $30 a person, which includes six tastings.
Tastings will be every Saturday from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Wine
Tasting cottage. Slainte! Visit
https://secure.la-renfest.com to
order your Whiskey Tasting tickets to make sure you get them on your
favorite day!
Just a reminder that you can save 20% on festival Admission Tickets,

we also have multi-day tickets that allow you to save even more money!

Our School Day program is well underway for our 2011 season with
many schools already signed up to join us this November. Our three
dates for this year are November 15th, 16th, and 17th. Last year we
had over 200 school come out for this fantastic educational event and
want to make sure all the schools in the area know about this
excellent opportunity. For more information please visit
http://www.studentday.net.
I realized that in the letters that we mailed out to schools I forgot
to include the Grade Level Expectation Correlations that teachers have
developed for our event. They can be downloaded at
http://www.studentday.net/LRFGradeLevelExpectationCorrelations.pdf. If
you have any questions about our program please don’t hesitate to give
our Student Day office a call at
985-467-4766 or
877-327-6106.
I had posted information about our Girl Scout Day that is coming up
in October last month, and need to let everyone know that we have
reached the limit of 250 reservations for this year. We have been
talking with some Boy Scout troops about setting up a Boy Scout day
for next year, so keep an eye out for that info in the spring!
We will be holding our Job Fair this year on October 8th and October
22nd. The job fair is where we take applications for all the different
positions we have available as well as take applications for people
who want to work for our merchants. If you worked last year and want
to return you will need to come out during one of our two days to
complete your 2011 paperwork and receive your site pass. Everyone
needs need to bring their photo ID and social security card to the
interview so we can complete the hiring paperwork for everyone who is
hired. If you are interested in working at the festival this fall make
sure you mark the dates on your calendar!
The 2011 Entertainment Weekend Schedule has been posted on our
website at
http://larf.org/shows for all our scheduled entertainment.
Check it out to see the new entertainers we have this year, as well as
entertainers that have performed here in the past that are returning
this year. It will be a few more weeks until our daily schedules are
available, but now you can plan your weekend to make sure you see your
favorite entertainers!
Have a wonderful day and I will be back in touch in a couple weeks!
