Dear Educators,
We are happy to share that we have educator professional development workshops coming up: one takes place January 24-26, and three more will happen during June and July.
January 24-26, 2025 "Telescopes and Observations"
The January workshop, titled "Telescopes and Observations" will cover some topics in light, optics, and spectroscopy. This workshop is mainly for teachers of grades 8-12. You will build your own Galileoscope and spectroscope, and participants will be able to tour the research telescopes at McDonald Observatory and view the night sky (weather permitting, of course) through telescopes located both at the Visitors Center and at the summit. Educators will receive up to 13 CPE hours.
The deadline to apply is Friday, December 13. (I realize this is late--we'll accept applications until midnight Monday December 16)
. Learn more about the workshop and find the application link at our workshops webpage:

There is no charge for this workshop. Workshop materials as well as lodging and meals are covered by educational grants and endowments. Participants' only expense will be their travel to McDonald Observatory for the workshop.
Summer 2025 Workshops
This Summer, we will be offering three workshops:
Galaxies and Cosmology, grades 8-12, June 17-20
Astronomy Basics, grades K-8, June 30-July 3
Worlds Beyond our Solar System, grades 5-12, July 17-20
For the summer workshops, there is a $100 fee, and all other workshop expenses including meals and lodging during the workshop are covered by gifts and educational endowments to McDonald Observatory. Participants are responsible for the expense of travel to McDonald Observatory.
Please feel free to share with others and contact us with any questions!
