Hi, I am signed up for a remote Section 4 test in April. I have passed all other tests but took them in person pre-pandemic. Is anyone who has taken these tests both in person and remote maybe share any narrative about their experience? Just wondering if it changes your strategy on a remote test and how it might differ. Any 'wish i would have known' things you could share with me?

Thanks!

Hi there, unfortunately I do not have that answer as I am in the same boat as you.  But wanted to let you know that I plan on reaching out to PSI to find out more information.  From my understanding, they provide a small tab bar at the top that has some "tools", one being a calculator.  My biggest question/ concern, are for the grading related questions that involve multiple math equations, while looking at a grading plan, in order to solve for elevation "X".
I'm hoping there is some type of notepad "tool", along with the calculator, because it would otherwise create a disadvantage vs having the typical white board & marker to jot numbers down on.

I will follow up once I hear more.

Thanks, I watched this recent video at CLARB that explains the process.

I think that at this point either in person or online you are required to use a virtual whiteboard, where you are limited to drawing with a mouse and a virtual calculator. While not perfect as I'm not sure I can sketch math problems quickly with a mouse, but it sounds like the process is the same for at home or in person. It also mentioned that you can't use a second monitor.

One specific question I have that wasn't covered in the video: I've see people say to do all the grading questions at once, and save the rest for before or after those since its better to do al those at once and put your self in a grading headset.

I don't know if that's possible in the online proctored test since you have to finish any question you've seen if you take a break. Not sure its beneficial or possible to do the test in 4 hours with no break.

I reached out to CLARB when the changes were first made and they said they would release a video demonstrating how the virtual whiteboard works. I feel like for myself it is a great disadvantage that having a physical white board and will take more time to draw out things with a mouse. I hope that they release the instructional video soon to provide some guidance. The virtual whiteboards I have seen on youtube for other administered tests seemed more like a paint app.
