Currently I am studying for sections 2 and 3 to be taken in April. I took section 1 in December and there were many questions in regards to IPM’s and maintenance plans. The Sustainable Sites Handbook chap 8 addresses all of the questions that I saw while taking section 1. Additionally, there was a question, just one, about graphics in the section 1 test. I found the answer to the graphic question in La Gro’s Site Analysis. Therefore, going forward my strategy and recommendation is to read all the books before taking any section of the LARE.

Taking them together is a better use of my study time.  I am not studying for each section independently, but for the test as a whole.  I passed section 1, so I believe this to be a better strategy for someone like me.

Hi Natalie,
Thanks for helpful advices . I was wondering if you read through all the study materials listed by CLARB for
All 4 sections? Or you have picked a few that you know would b better sources . Thanks again. Lucky you that passed section 1. I failed with 621 score

That sucks to not pass!  What type of learner are you?  https://www.wgu.edu/blogpost/3-types-of-learners-which-one-are-you
I cant sit through a Youtube video (and have trouble with watching movies) but I can read and comprehend pretty well. So if you are like me you will probably be successful with my strategy.  Remember nobody plans to fail, people fail to plan!

For section 1 I read all the recommended reading and watched/listened to webinars on the ASLA website for SITES AP Maintenance, as the materials for maintenance was pretty light in the recommended reading.  I am currently reading through all the required reading for the next 3 sections. I make note cards of the key terms (found in the Orientation Guide on CLARB's website for each section) and alphabetize them by the key item.  Once I am done with all the reading I comprise 1 note card for each key item with all the information from each textbook that addressed that key item (this is where the Table of Contents and Indices come in handy).  I am constantly reviewing The Guides to make sure that I am studying what is actually testable.  This averages about 1 hour a day. Good Luck to you and I hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I am taking section 1 in April. Does anyone happen to have a PDF copy of the sustainable sites handbook they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!

I understand the desire to have a free PDF of this book, but my understanding is that this would be a copyright violation, so I will have to delete any links, files etc that are posted in response to this.

Hi Natalie,
Thanks for explaining your plan on how to study. Very helpful. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I get to
Study for both section 1 and 4 for April. If not then I’ll take either one or both of them in August.
Good luck To you as well.

So to summarize, to prepare for the Section 1 Maintenance questions, the Sustainable Sites handbook Chapter 8 and the various SITES AP Maintenance materials will cover the question on the current exam? Do you have the link to where I can find/purchase/login to the SITES AP Maintenance materials?

I bought a couple of webinars from the ASLA website. However, in hind sight I would just read The Chap from Caulkin’s book. Sustainablesites.org.
