LARE Exam 1

Hi all!

Congratulations to all those have passed the various sections of the LARE and best of luck to anyone studying and about to take them!

I am getting prepared for the first section coming up in April.  I have essentially all of the study material I need, as mentioned in the previous posts. My only struggle is I do not have the book The Sustainable Sites Handbook by Calkins.  From what I have been reading it seems that only Chapter 8's material is on the exam.  I have found the book on several websites including amazon but I am not overly excited to spend over $60 for just needing one chapter's material.  Does anybody know where I might be able to find this book/PDF at a more affordable price?  Or can anyone provide the key notes/vocab they could share for Chapter 8?

Sustainable Sites Handbook is an essential resource for Sections 3 and 4, so I would argue its well worth your money to purchase it.

It wasn’t needed at all for section 3. And though I bought it, I can’t stand trying to read that fluff. So I will attempt to get through section 4 as well without it. The author wrote it as if they were trying to make it sound as if they were presenting valuable info, but only had 1 point to give for each chapter. So they just used a thesaurus to repeat the same point over and over with different words. I couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters without falling asleep. So you would be wise to save the cash. Wish I had.

Oh you were asking for section 1. That book is on the section 3 & 4 list not 1. There is absolutely zero information on anything sustainable or green on section 1 so skip all of those books recommended by CLARB regarding that topic. Project Adminstration stuff would be a much more valuable read for section 1.

I actually found the that Chapter 8 helpful in many of the maintenance questions and I passed Section one last August.
