I have a few questions about the suggested study materials for Section 1, hopefully someone can answer. Are there CLARB sample questions that apply to Section 1, or do those only cover Section 3 and 4? Between the PPI books and the Shake & Bake, which did you find more helpful and accurate? I've heard that the Shake & Bake study materials can be inaccurate.

And to the Admin, thank you for restarting this valuable group!

I only studied for Section 1 by reading Construction Documents (Hinze) and the AIA project management pdfs, by reviewing material I didn't understand by googling concepts and asking RAs/RLAs to explain, and by taking the Shake&Bake practice tests. I was only unsure on a few questions, and I passed.

What I found most helpful about Shake&Bake was getting into the mindset of taking an exam again. It's been many years for me and I had test anxiety because of it. The answers may not be all that accurate, but they are a good tool in exercising your brain to try to figure out the logic of the questions. They were also helpful for me because they were a cheap way to gauge which Section I felt strongest.

As for the CLARB sample exams, I only saw pdfs with the CLARB letterhead floating around this group for Sections 3 and 4. At one point, someone had posted a Section 2 sample exam word document, claiming it was CLARB. Unfortunately, it did not include the answer key, so that thread had crowdsourced the answers.

Thank you for your response! I too am nervous about getting back into the mindset of taking an exam- so your response is very helpful. So far what I've found useful for getting into the right mindset is using flashcards. You're absolutely right that taking practice tests will be constructive for that purpose.

In case it's helpful for others, I found a link to some digital flashcards via this Land8 link. Some of the links are outdated but overall, I think this is another useful resource. There is also a link to a glossary of terms that is helpful.

Again I really appreciate your thoughtful response. Thank you!

I totally agree with Diana on reading Hinze and googling the things you don't understand.  I also used lareprep dot com practice exam (they are relatively affordable but be prepared to take notes when you go through the correct answers at the end, because if you retake the test the questions will show up in a different order).  Taking as many practice tests as you can find really helps you build up your focus stamina and will help you learn all the little test taking tricks and make sure you clearly read each question.

Best of luck! and if you get stuck on any topics don't be afraid to ask questions here.

Has anyone had any of the court cases appear on the Section 1 Exam?  First time taking the LARE and going through the Hinze book and seeing a good bit of legal cases in the book.  Just wondering.  Thanks and good luck to everyone.

I hadn't seen any in the exam, nor had I seen anyone mention needing to study them in any of the other threads. I skipped reading over all of them.

Did you download the files at the start of this thread?  They are a collection of free materials available for this section of the exam.  We aren't posting PDFs of books on here due to copyright concerns.

The construction contracts can be found on amazon or ebay for $15-25 for the international edition.
The project management book is out of print.

I am looking for some clarification... Can anyone tell me just how relevant Project Management (Ramroth) and AIA Documents' terms are to SECTION 1. Someone who has taken Section 1 (not A + B). It seems like my focus should be on Construction Contracts (Hinze), Glossary of Terms, and shake and bake practice test.

Are you looking at the CLARB Orientation Guide?  That should give you a good idea of the breakdown.  I would be very surprised if it is possible to pass Section 1 without knowing the project management content and would go so far as to say its essential.  Remember that you can fail the LARE by missing too many of a certain type of question.  Also, for what it's worth, most people on this forum seem to regard Shake and Bake with skepticism at best...

Does anyone have access to the AIA pdfs on Project Management?

Did anyone else leave the exam with feeling like they knew almost nothing?

I'm going to lock this thread and remove all posts except the top one to keep things clean, so please post any relevant study files to this thread prior to mid-June.
