Hi all, I'm starting to gather some info on the new format of Section 3 and have a few questions:

1. Would the LarePrep exams no longer be helpful for the new blueprint?
2. I think I recall hearing CLARB say in an info session that this new format would actually include study guides as a new study tool. This seems like it was an important thing missing in the other 3 exams I've completed, so I'm hopeful this is the case. Does anyone have info on if/when this will be available?
3. Any info on how this new blueprint should change my studying/study materials would be appreciated

No one knows much yet. The topics for the new exams have been up for quite a while and CLARB has just added the updated list of reference books on their website, so that's the best starting place.

I would recommend you check out next week's series of ASLA-sponsored lunchtime webinars with CLARB. The first one is on Monday.

Just an FYI that LAREprep is currently in the process of updating our study materials for the new blueprint. We will keep the Section 4 resources online for those taking the Section 4 exam in October, but our hope is to have updated content for the new 4 exam formats very soon (and our website will be updated to make these changes very clear). Hope that helps clear things up as it pertains to your 1st question.

Edward, could you send a note out when Section 3 info is updated?

Also, to final confirm. Is section 3's content changing? The road map I reviewed on their website implies it's staying the same. It's only 1 and 4 that are being affected, no?

CN,

As the ASLA staff member managing LARE Prep week, I can confirm that the Demystifying the LARE webinar on Monday, September 11, will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing. Please note that this is an ASLA sponsored webinar, developed by our LARE Prep Committee, and not a CLARB hosted webinar. The webinar is free for all ASLA members. All of the CLARB information provided on the webinar is public information and previously shared on their transition webinars.

I echo Kevin's question to anyone with information on changes (or lack thereof) to 3. I've watched the CLARB info sessions but I'm still confused about what's changing in regards to Section 3.

I've seen the
new reading list (and noticed it no longer includes Timesavers) and Section 3 always included AIT's, so I'm curious if the new format was just focused on Sections 1/4, or if there will actually be changes to 3 as well.

That ASLA event looks informative - does anyone know if it'll be recorded and become shareable afterwards? $100 American seems steep for information that should be free from CLARB...

Hi Bradley - we really appreciate you posting here. You mentioned that all of the CLARB information provided on the webinar is public information, but it looks like there are 3 guest speakers (as well as a CLARB spokesperson) taking part in the event. What is the role of these speakers - were they involved in creating the new blueprint? Many of the people who post on here are not members of the ASLA and I imagine they are trying to gauge if the $100 non-member fee is worth the expense, so clearing up the role of these speakers would likely be helpful.

I signed up for the CLARB webinar this friday to hopefully have a better understanding. The last CLARB webinar hosted in May mentioned they would have more clarity on the transition from Section 3 Design to "Planning and Design" later this summer and provide practice tests for the new format in early September, but I have not seen any provided materials besides the revised reading list. I am hopeful this webinar is all we will need to understand if there is in fact scope change for Test 3 transition or not. If CLARB waits any longer to provide the resources, it significantly impacts the available time to study before the December test.

The webinar on Friday will focus on the December administration and support candidates in determining which sections of the L.A.R.E. they have remaining after the blueprint change.

Details on the new section content has been available on the CLARB website since the announcement of the transition. You can review the Planning and Design section content on the CLARB website now.

The new recommended reading list is also available on the CLARB website and the updated L.A.R.E. Orientation Guide has also been posted. Registration for December 2023 opens today.

Hi Admin,
Apologies on the delayed reply, as my settings must not be correct for notifications. The 3 other speakers are members of the ASLA LARE Prep Committee. They were not involved in developing the new blueprint.

Is there an update from LAREPrep or CLARB about when the practice tests will finally be released for the new blueprint?

How can CLARB change Section 3 exam for december all of a sudden without informing that there would be a change, like Section 1 & 4?
