HP 226519-001 power supply connections

Hello,

Just got one of these power supplies. I have found on the web 2
inconsistent sets of instructions for how to get this to power up.
The first one, at http://www.k8gp.net/station-equipment/hp-3000w-power-supply-info,
says to short pins 3 and 4 on rows 2 and 4. The second one, at
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1005309&page=3,
says to short together pin 3 on rows 3, 4, and 5.

Do both of these methods work or is one erroneous? Any one better
than the other?

Another couple of questions: Has anyone figured out a good way to
mount an on/off switch? And does this p/s have an internal fuse, or
is it necessary to add one in the line?

Hello Bill,
Looking at the pin field, the pins count from left to right 1 through 5.
From the 'BOTTOM" row to the top, they are designated as rows A through D.
As an on/off control, shunt pins A3 and B3.
To enable the supply, shunt pins D2 to D3.
Always use a "2 pole" AC on/off switch in the 240 VAC feed from a
circuit protected with a breaker or a fuse.

The K8GP one works, and I think the other one does too. I connected mine
just as the K8GP page sez.

Thanks, Buck, I tried your method today and it works fine.  The K8GP method and the RCgroup methods also work.  I need to put the on/off switch in the 240vac line, a small switch between A3 and B3 would not do the job?

My p/s puts out 51v just as advertized.  Only issue is that one of the fan blades seemed to be scraping something, guess I'll have to open it to find out what it is touching.  Anyone else have this issue?  Hope it is not too difficult to remove the cover, there are lots of screws.

I still have been unable to resolve my fan noise issue.  There is a noise coming from the fans.  Not sure if it is one of the blades making contact with something, a fan's motor, or something else.  And I can't figure out how to open the unit to check out the fans.  What kind of tool is needed to remove those screws?  The heads are unlike anything I have seen before.
