Symfony path too long

Sorry for the crazy question:
I have a client who can't load the framework on their source control server because the path under /vendor/symfony... is too long - they're limited to 259 characters (so they tell me)
My opinion is that they need to update their source control server. But I need to exhaust all other options - so: does anyone have any suggestions on what else to do?
