At Insight Homes, we are focused on the Science of Comfort and building energy efficient homes. Many builders offer energy efficient or Low-E Windows (usually at an upgrade), but we know that all Low-E windows are not made equally. We decided to put our windows to the test by shining a sun lamp through four different types of windows and measuring heat transference in BTU (British Thermal Units) per hour. Watch below:
Our Low-E windows cut down on wear and tear of HVAC system, and UV coating on the windows eliminates the fading of your carpets and upholstery. The best part? Our Low-E windows comestandardin every house.
Legacy desktop solution. Docker Toolbox is for older Mac and Windows systems that do not meet the requirements of Docker for Mac and Docker for Windows. We recommend updating to the newer applications, if possible.
The boot2docker approach is nicely portable to different kinds of VMMs beyond Hyper-V, and allows us to keep our investments in virtual machines created, but has significant disadvantage - they do not run Windows-based containers.
Hi, I am having windows 8 system. When I try to install docker for windows it is showing out of memory. So I used docker toolbox. Can I use docker toolbox instead of docker for windows. Docker and docker toolbox work like same ? or is there any problem of using docker toolbox.
I am running Windows 10 Enterprise 2017 (so not really a legacy windows). I have Virtual Box 5.2.x installed and running, and I am not inclined to give it up yet. Now I need to do docker development (build new docker). So I am also facing the same question: Docker for Windows or Docker Toolbox? BTW, I am behind a proxy/firewall.
Then I tried to download and set up DockerTool. This time at least I am able to run the dockertoolbox.exe and get to installation selection. One of the checkbox is VirtualBox. Since I already have virutalbox installed, I unchecked it. Then proceeded with installation. Installation did finish without error.
OK. Docker engine apparently is not started. So how to start the docker engine? Is docker engine supposed to be a process running on Windows, or in VirtualBox? Can I manually use my own VirtualBox console to bring up docker engine image?
I see its already answered in above comments but my one cent :
Docker toolbox is used with virtualization enabled
Docker desktop is used with Hyper-V
The problem is if we turn on Hyper-V we cannot use Virtualization dependent s/w eg - Virtualbox which will cause issue if you turn on Hyper-V so its a hard decission to make
Hassos is a full OS that you will install on a compatible hardware. Hassio is a container installation that you run on the OS of your choice.
Your question is only about this difference or you are asking because you want to do the choice between both ?
The main difference is that with hassos the hardware you will use to run it will be only dedicated to hassos. With hassio you will be able to run anything else more on the OS you choose (windows/Mac/Linux distribution).
Ok I did not explained it 100% correct.
Hassio is a part of hassos that you can run on any OS of your choice. But hassos (embedding hassio) will require 100% of your piece of hardware dedicated to home assistant.
Hassio is a dockerised version of home assistant, plus a dockerised supervisor. It can be installed on any linux, I am not sure about OSX and windows. It also has the facility to to run hassio addons, which are separate applications like a dhcp server, a mosquitto server - pretty well anything you can put in docker can be made into an addon.
Thanks. Thats starting to make sense.
Id much rather hassos installed on my machine but it just doesnt work. would not boot at all.
Also the plex plugin cannot mount my media on a separate drive from Hass.
Is it possible to install packages from Github in Hassio? Or is it only possible to use the available add-ons? If so, I will have to go for a new installation as I want to include packages that does not exist as add-ons. And if I have to go that way, is it possible to copy the configuration from Hassio and import it to HA on the new installation?
Although Windows 11 looks like nothing more than a reskin of Windows 10, the operating system packs in a ton of new features. There are relatively small changes, like a new Start menu and Taskbar, as well as some defining features.
Windows 11 makes a big visual departure for Microsoft. In the new operating system, Microsoft centers the Taskbar and the Start menu on the screen. This makes it look a bit more like macOS and ChromeOS. However, you can still move it back to the left if you want.
But if you want to pin your Taskbar to the right or the left of the screen, then we have bad news. You can no longer do that natively, as in Windows 11, the Taskbar only stays on the bottom. Paid third-party apps like Start11 can change it if you want, however.
One big area Microsoft has focused on is File Explorer. The latest update adds tabs, and Microsoft is reportedly prepping a large redesign of File Explorer in 2023. This redesign is said to bring Microsoft services and OneDrive into File Explorer, as well as a new details menu when you select a file or folder.
Starting with the Start menu, in Windows 11 it is a bit more simplistic. You only see a static list of apps, followed by your most frequented documents at the bottom. Critically, Live Tiles are gone in Windows 11, which makes the Start menu look much tidier.
Most recently, Microsoft added enhanced refresh rate support in Windows 11, fixing issues for gamers with multiple monitors. More titles support DirectStorage, as well, such as Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.
Windows 11 solves a big issue with multi-monitor setups, too. Windows 11 remembers how you had your windows on your external monitor and will save them in that state when you disconnect from a monitor and then plug it back in. This is one of the most annoying problems with Windows 10 that Windows 11 finally addresses.
Windows 10 has a traditional tablet mode that makes your PC go to a full-screen Start menu experience. In Windows 11, this is removed. Instead, Windows 11 behaves more like an iPad, where when you switch your device to a tablet, things become easier to touch. That includes new gestures for opening the Start menu, dismissing windows, and more, none of which are present in Windows 10. In addition to tablets, this feature has bolstered Windows 11 devices like the Asus ROG Ally.
Voice navigation is also improved in Windows 11, allowing you to use your voice to launch apps, enter keyboard and mouse inputs, control the operating system, and basically anything else you could need. In short, Windows 11 allows you to fully control the OS with your voice.
According to Microsoft, Windows 11 does a lot of work in memory management to favor the app windows you have open and running in the foreground. This should ensure that they get more CPU power over other system resources. Windows 11 also suspends some data in RAM while your PC sleeps, helping it wake from sleep 25% faster than Windows 10.
Windows 11 is worth the update for most people. It comes with a wide range of new features, performance improvements, and design changes. As the latest Windows OS, it usually gets more attention than Windows 10, too.
Users will no longer have access to Skype for Business servers. They will not be able to access the XML settings for Skype for Business or have the ability to sign in for support to Skype for Business meetings, Microsoft said.
Character.AI, the hugely popular digital avatar startup, announced Thursday that users will now be able to hold real-time conversations with one of the company's multitude of AI agents by placing a free, fictionalized Character Call on the app.
The company has been building intelligent chatbots designed to engage users in interactive conversations since the company's founding in 2021. Initially, users could only interact with these characters as one would any other chatbot like Gemini or Claude, doing so via text. That changed in March 2024, when the company unveiled Character Voice, a suite of free tools including a library of more than a million AI-generated vocals built both by the Character.ai team and its user community, which allowed users to speak with their selected avatars in one-on-one conversations.
If you've recently lost files on a storage drive, you might be able to get them back with free data recovery software. It's all too easy to accidentally delete files when you select more than one at a time. Malware attacks and drive malfunctions can also cause data loss.
While that information might be inaccessible to Windows or macOS, data recovery apps perform deep scans and have advanced methods of restoring files. Even free solutions can help you get your data back from hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), and external USB drives.

The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) operates a voluntary program that tests, certifies, and labels windows, doors, and skylights based on their energy performance ratings. The NFRC label provides a reliable way to determine a window's energy properties and to compare products.
The NFRC label can be found on all ENERGY STAR qualified window, door, and skylight products, but ENERGY STAR bases its qualification only on U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient ratings, which are described below.
Review the state fact sheets or use the window selection tool for new construction or existing homes from the Efficient Windows Collaborative to determine the desired performance ratings for your climate.
The bottom line is, when it comes to curb appeal, vinyl and aluminum frames add significant value. When deciding, it pretty much boils down to your personal preferences about the appearance of your impact windows.
