greetings fellow film fans:

There are quite a few good movies in town this week, and we'll touch
on two of the best in this message. The good news is, they are both
being shown for free.

"Aliens," the classic horror film about a deadly creature terrorisng a
spaceship, is considered one of the best films of its genre. This will
be shown Thursday, August 2 at 7 p.m. at the Albany County Public
Library as part of its "You Be the Witness Film Series." Free
admission.

On Sunday, August 5 the Laramie Film Society's "Not Shown Before at a
Theater Near You" film series continues with "Zodiac," one of the best
films of 2007. The movie will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in the ACPL's
large meeting room.

Zodiac is a film about the hunt for the Zodiac serial killer who
terrorized the San Francisco area in the 1960s and early 1970s. This
film concentrates on a police detective and a newspaperman who both
get caught up in the investigation. Unlike many crime stories, this
one emphasizes basic police work, following leads, conducting
interrogations, searching for evidence.

The film is based on books written about the case by newsman Robert
Graysmith, who is portrayed in the film by Jake Gyllenhaal of
"Brokeback Mountain." The film also stars Mark Ruffalo of "All the
King's Men," who plays detective David Toschi, the man on whom the
movie character Dirty Harry Calahan was modeled. This movie is rated R
and runs 158 minutes. The series is sponsored by the LFS the Library
and the Wyoming Peace, Justice and Earth Center.

Originally, we were going to show "Paper Clips" on August 5, but
Hastings sold their last copy of it and nobody else in town rents it.
Probably the only way to get your hands on this movie is to buy it or
rent it from Netflix.
